Firefighters Battle Large Fire |

Firefighters are battling a large fire at the old Sutherlands in east Springfield. Firefighters responded to the now abandoned building near Chestnut and U.S. 65 in the 6 p.m. hour. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. Firefighters searched the building for anyone inside. They now believe it was empty. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire led to power outages to customers in that area. Read more here

It took the firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. The Battalion Chief said that the fire that occurred is under investigation. The fire has been so close to the power lines, so the City Utilities had to shut off some of the electricity while the firefighters were working. They also have to shut down the train because they needed to drag the hoses over the railroad tracks in order to get to the fire. There were no injuries reported.
