Firefighters are battling a large fire at the old Sutherlands in east Springfield. Firefighters responded to the now abandoned building near Chestnut and U.S. 65 in the 6 p.m. hour. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control. Firefighters searched the building for anyone inside. They now believe it was empty. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire led to power outages to customers in that area.
